St. Mary Magdalen Dominican Parish

Liturgy Committee

Since the Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life" (Sacrosanctum concilium, 47), the work of the liturgy committee is valuable to the Christian life of the parish. The GIRM, in fact, states that it is "of the greatest importance that the celebration of the Mass—that is, the Lord’s Supper—be so arranged that the sacred ministers and the faithful taking part in it... may derive from it more abundantly those fruits for the sake of which Christ the Lord instituted the Eucharistic Sacrifice of his Body and Blood and entrusted it to the Church, his beloved Bride, as the memorial of his Passion and Resurrection" (17). The GIRM continues by mentioning that the celebration of the Eucharist must be planned so it fosters "a conscious, active, and full participation of the faithful..., a participation burning with faith, hope, and charity..." (18).

In light of this teaching, the liturgy committee meets to discuss and implement ways to make our Eucharistic celebrations prayerful and meaningful.
