We are called to live the message of Evangelii Gaudium to “apply the gospel to the transformation of society.” The Peace and Justice ministry meets monthly to discuss ways we can implement this charge. Although our efforts are often focused on addressing the refugee/immigrant crisis, throughout the year we join others in our community to feed the hungry, care for creation, and support legislation for a just society.
The Peace and Justice Ministry was set up to address immigration issues, including resettlement, legal representation and federal and state legislation. The committee focuses on the Corporal Works of Mercy: providing food, clothing, books and tutoring. It’s a forum for people to bring their proposals and projects to the attention of other people who are looking for ways to feed the hungry and welcome the stranger in very specific and concrete ways. The Peace and Justice Ministry projects are joint efforts with not only the parish and school, but other community faith groups as well.
