External Resources

The Peace and Justice ministry works with various resources for Catholics and other people of faith to utilize in our collective and personal journey to promote social justice, such as:

Bay Area Border Relief -Immigrants and refugees at the Texas Border need our help with basic necessities. Click here to find ways that you can help the Rio Grande Valley Humanitarian Respite Center, led by Executive Director Sister Norma Pimentel of Catholic Charities in McAllen, Texas.

JustFaith ((www.justfaith.org)JustFaith Ministries was birthed in an effort to invite and prepare people of faith for the life-changing and world-canging call of the Gospel to help heal the world and, in so doing, experience a deeper faith, a more fulfilling life, and a community of careand vitality.  Excellent source of books, films, and classes.

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (usccb.org): at the USCCB website click on the section heading  “Issues and Action”. See what the Conference is working on, and become involved in those causes.

Catholic Charities of the East Bay (cceb.org): our local chapter has an easy website to navigate and find ways to give service.  For example, CCEB set up a donation site to help DACA recipients offset their $495 October renewal fee.

Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity (www.im4humanintegrity.org/) We attend the monthly East Bay Interfaith meetings to exchange information and identify opportunities for action for members of the Peace and Justice Ministry.  We also post action alerts in the Peace and Justice column in the parish bulletin, and partner with this group to provide a faithful witness at immigration court hearings for asylum seekers.

East Bay Sanctuary Covenant (https://eastbaysanctuary.org/) a local organization offering sanctuary, solidarity, support, community organizing assistance, advocacy, and legal services to those escaping war, terror, political persecution, intolerance, exploitation, and other expressions of violence.

Ignatian Solidarity Network (www.ignatiansolidarity.net): A mission “to educate, and form advocates for social justice animated by the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the witness of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador and their companions.”

Bread for the World (bread.org): St. Mary Magdalen Parish is a consistent supporter of Bread for the World and its work to end hunger.  Our parishioners have walked, pledged, prayed and petitioned for budgets and policies that improve funding for food programs. Check out the website for ongoing ways you can support this fine work.

Jubilee USA (https://www.jubileeusa.orgOur parish is a member congregation and has written letters to congress urging just debt relief and a fair global finance policy toward lower income countries.

Interfaith Power and Light (interfaithpowerandlight.org): the mission of Interfaith Power & Light is to be “faithful stewards of Creation by responding to global warming through the promotion of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.” The San Francisco-based group’s current action is to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from drilling. Visit the website and click “Take Action” to find out ways you can advocate for the environment through this group.

Catholic Mobilizing Network (catholicmobilizing.org): this national organization’s mission is ending the death penalty and promoting restorative justice.  At their website learn how you can support this cause.  CMN “is working in close collaboration with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and living the mission of the Congregation of St. Joseph.”
