Sharon Henthorn-Iwane

Sharon Henthorn-Iwane has been a spiritual director for three years. In addition to general spiritual direction, Sharon has completed the Pierre Favre program in Los Altos, a three-year course to direct individuals through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. She enjoys accompanying people of all ages in their spiritual journey, encouraging them in the awareness and deepening of their experiences of God. In her spiritual direction practice, she is deeply influenced by Ignatian Spirituality which emphasizes finding God in all things, discernment and spiritual freedom.

Sharon grew up in Southern California, the youngest of six children in a Roman Catholic family.  At U.C. Berkeley, she attended the Newman Hall Holy Spirit Parish and participated in an ecumenical collegiate Christian Fellowship through which God worked to deepen her faith. Through the study of the Scriptures, God helped build a strong foundation for experiencing the reality of His presence in prayer and discerning His voice. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a double major in Biology and Art. Sharon worked in clinical lab management and then worked for ten years on staff for an ecumenical collegiate Christian Fellowship teaching, mentoring, organizing retreats and providing resources in the area of prayer. She also paints religious icons and makes artisanal chocolates.

Sharon first joined the St. Mary Magdalen Parish in 1990, where she was later married to her husband Alex and her two sons, Kai and Noa were baptized. Her sons were both lifers (K-8) at the School of the Madeleine.

Sharon sees directees in the ministry office at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Berkeley and virtually. Generally, sessions are an hour-long and can be of varying frequency.
